IBM is training Watson to hunt hackers

Watson, IBM's computer brain, has a lot of talents. It mastered "Jeopardy!," it cooks, and even tries to cure cancer. But now, it’s training for a new challenge: Hunting hackers. On Tuesday, IBM Security announced a new cloud-based version of the cognitive technology, dubbed “Watson for Cybersecurity.” In the fall, IBM will be partnering with eight universities to help get Watson up to speed by flooding it with security reports and data.

Twitter cuts off intelligence agencies from data feed

Twitter has cut off U.S. intelligence agencies from a data feed that provides real-time information of events around the world produced by Twitter users, including Islamic extremists such as ISIS that are increasingly active on social media. The service is provided by a company called Dataminr, which also has contracts to provide data to news organizations, including CNN, and investors and government first responders. For instance, Dataminr provided early alerts to the terror attacks at the Brussels airport and in Paris

Millions of Microsoft users are going to miss out on a free Windows 10 upgrade

Microsoft announced today that the end of its Windows 10 upgrade offer is in sight, with the free option to be replaced with a $119 fee for a new copy of the OS. In a blog post, the company confirmed that the free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1 would end July 29. It also says that Windows 10 is now in use on more than 300 million devices around the world.
