With this 3D Printed Microscope turn your Smartphone into a science tool for less than $1

Have you ever tried for getting super-duper up close with tiny objects like a salt crystal or a blood cell using your smartphone camera ? Yes I agree that smartphone cameras are great for lot of things. but they are not designed for getting super close shots of tiny objects. But you can now do this giving a helping hand to your smartphone camera to get super-duper close to tiny objects.

You just need a 3D printer , a glass bead and some files from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The microscope used for this process consists of a 3D printed clip and glass sphere to get you close to objects. Put these objects together and slide these materials over the your camera lens of your product (Smartphone or a tablet) and there you get a fully functional yet very inexpensive Microscope, which will get you super-duper close to objects.

PNNL, the research firm suggests to start your explorations with a 100X version of the microscope to familiarise yourself with the system before moving to higher end versions like 350X and even 1000X versions

The PNNL researchers said that they have got the best results when they tried the project using the iPhone 5s. But they also said that the microscope is fully functional on all other smartphones and will also be able to get you closer to objects even if you are using a Tablet. Printer files for iPhone 5s and other platforms are available to download.

These things are really cool to play with and you can peer into blood samples of parasites using the 350X Microscope and plague cells and anthrax spores can be identified using the high level 1000X microscope.

PNNL describes that this scientific instrument was inspired by a need of Department of Homeland Security. PNNL describes this as “Rapid bio detection technologies”The microscope had to be extremely inexpensive in case of contamination issues so it could be thrown away easily.

So, this new sub 1$ 3D printed microscope can easily turn your Smartphone or Tablet into Science tools, which can become pretty sweet for Science projects in School or Colleges.
